Site History:
Our site, within the ex-Navy military base HMS Daedalus, dates back to the early 1900s and was the busiest airfield during D-Day. It has served various purposes over the years, adding to its rich history.
Investigation Areas:
Explore the publicly accessible areas of our historic site during your investigation:
- The Princess Anne: The sole surviving 320t cross-channel SR.N4 hovercraft.
- Wellington Hangar: A listed WW1 seaplane hangar housing smaller hovercraft.
- Winchester Hangar: A slightly newer WW1 era hangar with larger exhibits, including two hovercraft available for boarding and investigation.
- The “Lean-to”: An extension of The Main Hangar containing additional hovercraft.
Facilities:
- Shop/Cafe Area: Includes tables and seating for around 30 people. A TV with HDMI port is available on request.
- Refreshments: Hot drinks and packaged snacks (crisps, chocolate, biscuits, etc.) are available for purchase by card. Alternatively, you can bring your own refreshments and use our hot water boiler for hot drinks.
* Please note: There are no cooking facilities on site.
Booking Details:
- Days: Friday and Saturday evenings subject to volunteer availability
- Standard Hours: 20:00 to 01:00, with a half-hour setup period before and a half-hour teardown period after the event.
- Cost: £300, with a £100 deposit required to secure the booking. The remaining £200 is due no later than two days before the event.
- Capacity: Approximately 30 people, with some flexibility.
Requirements:
For any organization or group wishing to hire the facilities, valid public liability insurance is required. A copy of the insurance certificate must be provided.
